Freeport Sectional

IHSA Qualifiers

Highlights

  • Kaneland edged Sycamore by two points to win the sectional championship. Controversy reared its ugly head in this meet. After scratches were made in some of the sprint events, the meet official reseeded the events effected along with changing the qualifying standards to the finals in the sprint events. This was done without consulting the athletes and coaches. In the 4x8 relay, there was a timing malfunction. In an instance like that, only the top two teams advance. The team that finished third ran eight seconds ahead of the qualifying time.

  • Lexy Duncan (Dixon HS) won two individual events in this meet. She captured the Long Jump with a 17-9 effort. She came back to win the 400 by one hundredth of a second ahead of Kaneland’s Nicole Sreeman (57.53 – 57.54).

  • Ellie Willging (Freeport HS) completed the distance double. She started by winning the 3200 Meter Run (11.13.77) by fourteen seconds ahead of Maggie Lalowski (Sycamore). She came back to win the 1600 Meter Run (5:18.71).

Glen Ellyn Glenbard South Sectional

IHSA Qualifiers

Highlights

  • Host Glenbard South scored 138 points to easily win their sectional. Montini finished second with 86 points.

  • Katelyn Hill (Glenbard South HS, Glen Ellyn) won the 100 Meter Hurdles (14.92) stamping her as one of the favorite in this event in next week’s state meet. Hill finished second behind Grace Cronin (Fenwick HS, Oak Park) in the 300 Hurdles (44.74 – 45.47). Cronin also won the High Jump (5-2).

  • There were two other double winners in this meet. Anna Sloan (Trinity HS, River Forest) won the 100 Meter Dash (12.59) by close to a second. She also won the 200 Meter Dash (25.97) by more than two seconds. Olivia Ryan (Fenwick HS, Oak Park) won the 3200 Meter Run (11.18.35) by 12 seconds ahead of second place Maggie Hallerud (Montini Catholic HS, Lombard).
